As we continue with our mini-blog series about the lies people believe about CrossFit, I want to give you a heads up on a coming blog where we dive deep into our Vision and Core Values as a gym. We’re not just another CrossFit Gym down the street. We’re doing things different here, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it.
For now, here’s lie #3 – CrossFit Will Bulk Me Up, So No!
Perhaps it could go without saying if you’ve read Lie #1 or Lie #2, but just in case you missed it, I’m DOWN 30 lbs since starting CrossFit. Even before I really started paying attention to my diet, I was losing weight. We’re talking 2-3 lbs, but none the less, we were lifting heavy weights and I was getting stronger… the cool thing was, I was also learning through CrossFit how to take in enough calories to sustain increased work capacity, but not so much that I was gaining weight.
The hard truth that this lie tries to cover up is that you don’t GROW or SHRINK in the gym. You do it in the kitchen. You may see the slightest fluctuation in your weight before dealing with your diet, but in a short time, you’ll experience a plateau.
No amount of weight lifted will lead to strength/muscle gains long-term unless you adjust your diet.
No amount of cardio/burpees/running/biking/rowing/jumpropes will lead to long-term weight loss unless you adjust your diet.
So what are your goals? Do you want to gain or lose? Either way, a community based strength and conditioning program paired with sound nutritional advice will help you accomplish way more than you ever could on your own. Don’t believe me?
